YSL Bullet Cufflinks
I have a thing for edgy pieces. Tough, unconventional and surprising - this pair of cufflinks have my name written all over them. I bought a Lanvin double cuff tuxedo shirt a couple of months back and I have been looking for the right pair of cufflinks to go with that shirt and I have found it.

This will give my shirt an edgy boost that speaks volume without me even needing to explain anything. It just speaks for itself. Subtle luxury and a spin on the traditional black-tie.

Deliberate and so self-explanatory. I need to have this. Get this for US$250 at YSL.
Yves Saint Laurent Light Grey Bib Shirt

As you all probably know by now, I have a thing for grey. Yet, despite that, I realize I do not have more than a couple of grey shirts. I have lots of a grey tee-shirts but shirts, no.

I came across this yesterday and this would be a good addition to my wardrobe. The bib detail is simple and draws attention in its own quiet way. The light grey shade is flattering and  the fabric lightweight. It is a good color for Fall and yet transitional enough to wear during the warmer months.

The winged collar and half-button placket adds sleek details that will look equally good with denim or pants. Get this Yves Saint Laurent Light Grey Bib Shirt for US$191.16 at Matches.com. (was US$401.76).

Yves Saint Laurent Black Suede Tassel Loafers back
I've only started noticing suede shoes this year. Before that, I've adverted them because of their lack of propensity for water. Suede and water - no go. And since I have no control over the weather, I decided that having control of my choice of shoe fabric was enough.

Lately, I've started taking a close look at suede shoes. They give off a vibe of luxury and a mod, dressy feel that can be played in a variety of ways - preppy, European, Caribbean.

These suede loafers caught my eye with their simple yet timeless design. Soft suede makes this a joy to walk in while the tassel design brings with it a level of old-world sophistication that gets better with age.

Wear these with shorts, jeans and sockless with pants rolled up for an easy, relaxed, nonchalant look that resonates. Get this for US$676.50 at Matches.

When it comes to fashion and shoes, I go through phases that I get in and out of - sometimes quickly and sometimes I don't think I would ever get out of it (like my Grey phase - it's just such a great color). I am out of my dress shirt phase and am currently into my tee-shirt phase and I got out of my boots phase a couple of months ago.

But it looks like this pair from YSL is igniting that spark again. Influenced and inspired by Japanese construction worker's traditional footwear, this double monk strap boot is fresh and cool and classic all at the same time.

YSL Double Monk Strap Boot openThe soft leather will be a joy to wear while the double monk strap provides subtle detail that speaks for itself. This would look great with tailored pants and I would play with the strap to provide more visibility; like how it was done during the collection's show. A great way to spice up a work outfit - tuck your pants in the boots and leave a strap undone.

I love the nonchalant, European vibe from this and it will make for a good addition to my boots collection. Get this for US$875 at YSL.

YSL Silk Woven Tie YSL Silk Woven Tie detail YSL Silk Woven Tie Grey detailI love stars and the occasional stripes and sometimes both at the same time. Like this silk tie from Yves Saint Laurent.

The contrasting lines at the tip add a dash of military-influenced detail while the embroidered tonal star deserves its very own mention (because I am quite a sucker for stars done right). This is a fun piece that would be good for toning down a serious, sombre shirt and would be quite at home in your weekend wardrobe.

Available in 4 colors but my vote is for the graphite & ivory and the navy & ivory. The best colors out of the bunch.

YSL Jonny Boot in Leopard Printed Calfskin YSL Jonny Boot in Leopard Printed Calfskin side

Animal prints should generally be avoided. Zebra strips, cow spots, leopard prints don't make for classic pieces or practical ones. I love my YSL Jonny Boots and needless to say, I was horrified when I saw this.

Just because you have a great iconic design doesn't mean you can butcher it by slapping on the tackiest leopard print. Firstly, where will you wear this to besides a dress party and what will you wear this with? I can't imagine how this could be incorporated into an everyday wardrobe.

This is hands down one of the worst ideas and I am left quite speechless; the only thing I can utter is 'WTF?!'.

YSL Silk Pocket Square YSL Silk Pocket Square detailI've recently been paying more attention to pocket squares - I think they provide an easy platform to play with detail, colors and fabric. I don't just use them on my blazers - I actually prefer to use them to jazz up my shirts; just slip them into your shirt pocket and adjust the creases to look as nonchalantly as possible and you've got a quick hit of detail.

I am loving this pocket square from YSL. The random, arty safety pin print is unexpected in a very good way. It's not stuffy or boring but just the exact opposite. The black trim around the edges add a sleek dash of color that compliments the fun vibe of this great piece.
