Bali’s my home away from home and one of my favorite things in life is doing absolutely nothing but eat, drink, read and yeah, do nothing in Bali. The W Retreat & Spa is nestled in the heart of Seminyak, Bali and is what one would come to expect from a W property with a hit of Balinese flair thrown in.
The sprawling compound is spacious (they have private villas as well as hotel rooms) and has a modern touch. There is an emphasis on lounging here so you’ll plenty of day-beds and large couches for you to chill, have a drink, read the papers or watch a movie on your iPad.
The hotel has its own stretch of beach so the sound of waves and the cool sea breeze is a great visual and sensory juxtaposition to the sleek architectural leanings of this W establishment. The ocean facing rooms allow you to soak in the sun, greenery and the sound of the ocean from the privacy of your own room. My bathroom was spacious and perfect. The rain shower feature is complemented by a wooden bench that you can use to set all your toiletries on and beside it is a spacious tub (large enough for two). The two separate sinks, the Bliss amenities (shampoo, conditioner, facial wash, body wash, body lotion, hand soap) and the Listerine mouthwash show just how attentive they are to detail and needs. The large bed has soft sheets that invite you to sink in.
The Starfish Bloo restaurant’s degustation menu was perfect – each course was excellently executed and perfectly flavored. It was a complete 360 from the mediocre dinner I had at Potato Head (it’s a 2 minutes walk from the hotel’s beach. They are side by side) the night before. Food at Fire (the steakhouse) was appetite-whetting as well. I will definitely be back again.
