Ann Demeulemeester Wide Knitted Belt

by Nicolas
Ann Demeulemeester Wide Knitted Belt

I have to admit that when I first saw this I went ‘yuck!’. This wide knitted belt reminded me too much of a corset – the lower waist portion of a corset. But looking further and closer, I realized that this would make a great layering piece.
It isn’t a belt per se because it’s not going to hold up your pants. But what it would do is add texture and layers to your outfit. I alter everything in my closet to fit me perfectly but sometimes my clothes (especially the t-shirts) come back too short and I wish I had something to wear underneath to add to the illusion of length and provide another contrast layer without all the extra

Public School Double Red Jonathan Shirt

I am a huge fan of layering. I love piling it all on and having different lengths, fabrics and color. The only time I can really do that is Fall so the weather has to be factored into my layering pursuits which is mostly just a hindrance, if you ask me.
So I do gravitate towards pieces that give off the illusion of double layers. Like this simple yet chic shirt. The white and grey contrast perfectly with varying lengths to give a more accurate show of the supposed layers.
I love the attention to detail on this piece. With the grey layer having a different colored cuff button, this is how details should be. They should go all the way.

A Single Man

by Nicolas
A Single Man

Tom Ford’s directorial debut, A Single Man, tells the story of a gay man in midlife coping with the death of his partner. The trailer is exquisite, sans spoken words with a terrifyingly compelling score. The imagery is beautiful and from the looks of it, the performances from the actors too.
I can’t wait to catch this for myself but till then, I’m going to watch this again and again.

Alexander McQueen Butcher's Apron

by Nicolas
Alexander McQueen Butcher's Apron

It is not a secret that not every piece that is shown on the runways make it to the stores. Some add to the collective vision of the runway show without being actual pieces that non-models can actually (or want to) carry off. There is also the factor of cost – most consumers would very much prefer mileage out of their ready-to-wear pieces; the more the better.
Which is why I am surprised that this apron got made. I understand the Alexander McQueen envelope-pushing vision – from human skulls on t-shirts to lampshades at hats. But an apron? Seriously? Well, I guess it is seriously after since it is sold at Barneys at a whopping US$2335.
The price tag is

Jil Sander – Only A Click Away

You will be able to buy Jil Sander’s menswear (including runway pieces), accessories, eye wear, fragrances from tomorrow on the Jil Sander website. Powered by YOOX, this is convenience at its best. 24/7 shopping at the convenience of your own home is something that I dig big time.
In other related news, the designer herself, Jil Sander for Uniqlo’s collection will be out in Uniqlo stores tomorrow. Head to Men.Style.com for a small preview of the collection.

10 Rules Of Style: Gianluca Isaia

by Nicolas
10 Rules Of Style: Gianluca Isaia

Gianluca Isaia, honcho of his namesake made-to-measure tailoring house, shared with Details his 10 rules of style. They run the gamut from the importance of enjoying food, living right to great sex.
His rules resounded and here are my favorites:
When I eat pasta or mozzarella di bufala, I chew extra hard to get in some exercise. I’m joking, but the point is I still enjoy food and I still look after myself. You need to be in shape, but don’t be obsessed with your body. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.”

Do things the way they should be done or don’t do them at all. When I go to Miami, I’d rather spend three days in a beautiful

Dries Van Noten Blue Grey Cardigan

by Nicolas
Dries Van Noten Blue Grey Cardigan

I have a thing for contrast pieces especially when their color combinations are not ones that I expect or have gotten accustomed to. Like this gorgeous cardigan from Dries Van Noten.
The light blue and grey combination is stunning in its own quiet way. The contrast compliments instead of hindering – the soft blue brings out the grey placket and the black buttons.
The color combination is also timeless – something that you will wear for years and years to come. I will take this everywhere and the more I look at it, the more it’s calling out to me. This will look dapper with both jeans and pants.

Bassike Button Front T-shirt

by Nicolas
Bassike Button Front T-shirt

I haven’t been feeling like dressing up lately. Maybe it’s just that I haven’t been venturing out of the house that much or maybe I haven’t been feeling very social lately. Whatever the reason, I live in my tee shirts and I am always on the lookout for unique ones.

I know what some of you might be thinking – since I don’t leave the house, what’s the point of having unique tee-shirts that no one is going to appreciate. Well, I don’t dress for anyone. i dress for myself and I want to appreciate what clothe my body. Period.

Back to this – I am liking its unconventional button placket and its nonchalant yet detailed vibe. The wide boat …

I Get A Little Help From Comme des Garcons

by Nicolas
I Get A Little Help From Comme des Garcons

The beauty of Comme des Garcons and Rei Kawakubo’s genius is that you never know just what to expect. And Comme des Garcons’ latest collaboration is a perfect example – it is teaming up with Apple Corp Ltd. (the company managing the works and music catalog of the Fab Four) to create a collection of bags.
I can only wonder just how it’s going to turn out, are albums going to be a source of inspiration and if so, which ones? Sgt.Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club? Abbey Road? I am excited and very intrigued.
The collection will hit Dover Street Market (Rei Kawakubo’s emporium in London) and Gyre in Tokoyo middle of November with subsequent distribution after. The deal made between

Hedi Slimane And Robert Pattinson

by Nicolas
Hedi Slimane And Robert Pattinson

Vampires have become the new wizards; thanks to my favorite show of the moment True Blood and of course, the Twilight franchise. I am more of a True Blood person gravitating towards the dark, erotic, accurate, humorous undertones of the hit HBO series. But even though the vampires in Twilight (or maybe only Robert Pattinson) sparkle in the sunlight, it is entertaining and I am looking forward to the release of New Moon (not as much as Eclipse – more ass-kicking).
The original maverick who started off the whole dark trend, Hedi Slimane got behind the lens to shoot the cover and spread for the upcoming issue of AnOther. They are a great fit – Hedi Slimane got the kind of

Raf Simons Black Leather 'Spoiler' Bowling Bag

I love bowling and I used to bowl every weekend when I was young and in high school, I would skip class to go to the bowling alley for a game or two. I have always found bowling bags to be a bit kitschy – at least the ones I have seen; they probably just function as they are with no regard to stylistic pursuits.
If I were a professional bowler, I would carry my balls in this bag from Raf Simons. Not only will I stand out, I would have the baddest bag hands down. I am living the ‘spoiler’ effect – pop-up leather strips that give the impression that the bag has been slashed and ‘spoiled’. It is
