Hermitage Lodge (Hunter Valley)

Sitting around doing nothing, staring out at nature with loads of great wine and cheese is one of my favorite things to do in life. I was very glad I had the chance to do so when I went to the Hunter Valley in Australia (it’s Australia’s version of Napa Valley) and stayed at the Hermitage Lodge.

This quaint establishment is nestled in the midst of a vineyard so the views from your balcony is stunning and spectacular. Think ripe grapes and quiet automated sprinklers and beautiful colors glistening in Summer sun. I am not a big outdoor person but the calmness and the serene quality of the surroundings at Hermitage Lodge is something everyone can appreciate.

The bedrooms are adequately spaced and the toilets are clean and simple. The bed’s not the softest and the sheets not the smoothest but it makes up for it in attention to detail (like yogurt, bagels and a toaster oven in your room so you can make your own breakfast) and a very centralized location. It is right smack in the center of all the major vineyards so you really don’t have to drive very far. The individual parking lot right in front of your door is a convenient touch.

Their Italian restaurant Il Cacciatore, serves tasty generous sized portion food too. It’s often packed during the Summer months so reservations are a must.

If you get a chance to go to Hunter Valley, do check the Hermitage Lodge out. Its quiet surroundings and simple personal touches make it perfect for doing absolutely nothing but drinking wine and snacking on cheese over rice crackers.
