Singapore will be the host of Asia’s first dedicated menswear fashion week come March. Currently nine labels have confirmed their commitment, with a further six to be announced in March. According to the International Herald Tribune, the week was created to fill a gap in the Asian market, where demand for luxury menswear is on the rise.
“Just look at the number of dedicated me’s stores opening in the region,” says Frank Cintamani, chairman of Men’s Fashion Week Singapore. “Menswear here is booming.”
“For us it’s a premiere,” says Raphael le Masne de Chermont, executive chairman of Shanghai Tang. “I have always told the press we have no intention to catwalk in the press. We are a brand that belongs to Asia, and it’s part of our development strategy to catwalk in the East. There are a lot of fashion festivals in Asia but they’re quite different from a fashion week. The interest here is to show to the international press.”
Singapore’s mens fashion week will see five days of shows from March 30 – April 3.
