Gucci Black White Check Shirt

My attraction to checks started last Winter when I was in Milan and I picked up this simple checked shirt at H&M. It was a black and white variety – simple, rugged and quite apt. I wear it all the time, with jeans and shorts. It’s a great causal piece that I haven’t gotten tired of.

Which brings me to this shirt – definitely more fancy and dressed up than the above mentioned shirt and hitting all the right spots for me. The classic black and white checks is timeless and would instantly provide a pop of detail to a work or play outfit.

I would wear this slim fit shirt with a solid colored knit tie – playing with …

Gucci Blue Poplin Dress Shirt

I used to avoid lighter colors like the plague. See, I am as clumsy as clumsy gets and I always seem to spill sauce, ink, oil, wine on myself and my clothes. I don’t exactly why but it seems no matter how hard and often I try, I still have accidents. So dark colors were my ammo for a while until life was too short to not wear colors.

So I went out and bought a bunch of white shirts – yes, I know, I can be quite extreme sometimes. And if I spilled something on it, fine, I would either try to remove the stain myself or make it my dry-cleaner’s business to remove it for me. After whites, …

Gucci Leather Moccasin

I love laced-up leather shoes and as much as I love my laced-up shoes, they get cumbersome sometimes when the laces come undone. And they always seem to come undone at the most inappropriate of times. They are also a bit trickier to take off after the party and the after-party – untying thin and short laces after consuming copious amounts of alcohol is not exactly very fun at 5am.

That said, it is at these times, where moccasins and loafers are so handy. This pair from Gucci is hitting all the right notes with me. I love the clean, simple lines and the sleek exterior. Neat, functional and yet stylish. The simplicity of this pair is something I really …

Gucci Black Knotted Loafers

We’re in the midst of a recession and there is no better time to look for bargains. If you’re out shopping for something; you might as well get it at the lowest possible price. Sale seasons are a great time for good bargains. Search well and you might be rewarded with a loot worth shouting about.

Loafers are evergreen and they go with pants, shorts, jeans. Which is why this pair from Gucci really caught my eye. Its simple, clean aesthetic is something I appreciate. No loud, ostentatious Gucci stamps or logos. Just visible stitching and a wonderful knotted detail across the middle vamp. Simple, classic and quiet.

I really like the knotted detail – it adds a dash of …

Gucci Navy Shirt

Besides the classic and perennial favorites of black and white shirts, I have a soft spot for navy shirts too. Darker in shade than the regular blue and so much richer in detail and intensity. It’s a good alternative to the usual black or white and unlike black, navy can and will take you to more conservative work environments eg, banking.

Plus, they also help conceal lunch time food accidents better than white shirts. So really, what’s not to like?

The rich navy color is well illustrated on this shirt while the hit of detail in the form of a lighter shade of blue lining commands attention in a subtle yet firm way. I like this because it is simple and versatile. You can …

Gucci Exotic Lace-Up

It’s Friday the 13th and some people will take extra precautions, others will simple shrug it off and here at Style Flavors, we present you with this horrendous excuse for a designer shoe.

Everything is wrong about this – from the tacky patchwork flowers to the red crocodile heel. I don’t know what sort of imagery the multicolored patchwork flowers are suppose to conjure up but they will never be auspicious so I can’t imagine where one wear this to.

And to stress how ridiculous and how worthy of this pair is of its price-tag, a red crocodile trim is thrown in around the heel for good measure. This is utterly worthless because shoes are meant to be worn and when they get …

Gucci Web Belt

I did a double take and cringed when I saw this. The neon visual assault of popsicle colors is just blinding in a horribly tacky way. This is just too easy.

I don’t know who will buy this although I can think of some candidates off the top of my head. Just because it’s from a designer label doesn’t automatically warrant envy. It looks like someone picked up scraps off a pinata and decided it would look dandy when made into an item you hold your pants up with.

This shouldn’t even cost 2 dollars let alone US$195. Find it at Bergdorf Goodman. …

Gucci Multi-Colored Striped Moccasin

I believe to a large extent that life is about as complicated as you make it to be. So I always scratch my head and wonder why designers always choose to complicate their designs. The economy is complicated, daily life can wear you down so why further complicate your footwear?

I had to laugh when I saw the multi-colored strip on this pair of patent moccasin. I don’t think it adds variety or detail – all it adds is silliness and opens the door for peripheral chuckles from random strangers. It’s not like I don’t get multi-colored stripes – I like Paul Smith’s and the occasional Gucci red and green one. This will look more presentable if they had stuck to the regular red and green strip …

Gucci Leather Lace-Up

Here at Style Flavors, we have not been very kind to Gucci – what with their logos, cheap embroidery and tacky fixtures. However, this is one redeeming shoe and we like what we see.

The black calf leather lace-up goes perfectly with the patent trim; like coffee and milk or condoms and lubricant. With just the right proportions and at the right positions, the patent leather trim adds a hit of understated detail.

This versatile pair will look equally look with dark jeans or tailored pants. I am also enjoying the visible curves on this pair of handsome lace-ups – and that is an added bonus!

Get this for US$610 at Neiman Marcus.

Gucci Black Suede Zip Bomber Jacket

When I think of bomber jackets, I associate them with coolness, attitude, sleekness and fitted chic. This mess of a bomber jacket, however, does not bring to mind such positive descriptions.

I am hating the lousy camel and beige color combination. You can’t tell it’s a 100% leather because it looks cheap, old and gives me the impression that it smells musky too.

What is up with the raglan sleeves? For a bomber jacket that costs this much, there should have been leather sleeves with studded buckles. Not elastic sleeves similar to those jackets found in the bargain bin of your local thrift store.

I wouldn’t even wear this if you gave it to me for free but I guess the optimistic people at Gucci have faith in their fans and expect them to fork out US$2850 for this ugly …

Gucci Rubber Boots

I have always wanted to go check out summer music festivals like Fuji Rock, Bonnaroo and Glastonbury. I am a huge fan of alternative and rock music and 3 full days of alcohol, musicians and groupies in the summer heat equates to much debauchery and fun! I never got to the chance to check them out; at least not yet. There is always somewhere else I need to be or something I need to do.

These rubber boots from Gucci will look right at home at Glastonbury. With rain and mud and all round wet weather, rain boots (or as the English call them, Wellingtons) are the staple footwear at the annual event.

I haven’t had much love for Gucci recently but these black, sleek rubber boots …

Gucci Sneakers

I think like a lot of medication, the Gucci signature logo is best in small doses. This pair of sneakers is a great example of how too much of something can lead to disastrous outcomes. The beige signature fabric is separated from a fugly cocoa calf trim by the iconic green/red/green web.

I don’t get the calf trim or the stitching that runs across it neither do I get the need for so much of the Gucci logo. I guess some people need confirmation by means of wearing their labels on their ankles; literally. I have no idea why Gucci keeps churning footwear like this, season after season.

It’s like being on this pendulum where I swing back and forth …
