I love stars and the occasional stripes and sometimes both at the same time. Like this silk tie from Yves Saint Laurent.
The contrasting lines at the tip add a dash of military-influenced detail while the embroidered tonal star deserves its very own mention (because I am quite a sucker for stars done right). This is a fun piece that would be good for toning down a serious, sombre shirt and would be quite at home in your weekend wardrobe.
Available in 4 colors but my vote is for the graphite & ivory and the navy & ivory. The best colors out of the bunch.

I love spiders and I've always wanted a Tarantula for a pet - sadly, I never got one because searching for one in the black market when you're 8 doesn't make for a good plan.
So I do get thrilled by the occasional insect on my clothes and accessories; a good way to somehow live vicariously and wear my love. I am digging this silk tie from Dior Homme - first the bumble bee and now spiders; two of my favorite bugs.
The black silk provides a subtle, natural sheen while the white embroidered spider will provide all the detail this tie needs. Wear this fun tie when you don't feel like taking yourself or life too seriously; because really, it's so much cooler for a spider to climb down your Dior tie than a waterspout!

I've started paying more attention to tie bars about a month or so ago. I think they add a distinct, dapper touch to an otherwise ordinary work shirt and tie. I am a fan of how a particularly small accessory can make such a difference.
So until you find a tie bar, this great navy silk tie will suffice. The subtle grey woven bar goes splendidly against the navy; providing a quiet hit of detail that will score you some style points. This is also wonderful for those days where you need to rush out the door and don't want to deal with the hassle of said tie bar. So sometimes, you really can have your cake and eat it too.

I love knit ties, I think they provide an easy platform for playing with texture and are hardier than pure silk ties. Which means less visible signs of beating from time spent in suitcases and duffels when you travel. They are also quite versatile; because of their knitted quality, I usually loop them loosely or pile 2 up for extra detail.
This grey stripe knit piece from Boss Black with its quiet, subtle contrasting stripes will be a great addition to any modern wardrobe. Its dark shade means its serious enough for work and yet cool enough for the after party.
If you're in the market for a knit tie, this is the one to own. Get this for US$125 at Nordstrom.

Ties are an easy way to add detail and color to an outfit. I am a fan of the skinny tie; I find it relevant, sleek and less bulky. Of course, it is not a look for everyone. I know people who swear by the traditional ones made by Hermes.
If you're however, looking for an affordable and chic tie, this striped from Band Of Outsiders will quite hit the spot. The black/putty (think clay and white) strips combo is fun and youthful. Pair this with a solid color (black, white) or with a louder one (like pink) to fully maximize the visual impact and the play on colors.
This 100% cashmere tie will not only be a joy to look at but also to wear. Get this for US$135 at eLUXURY.
The easiest sure fire way to add a dash of color to your outfit without going over the top is with accessories. With a tie or cufflinks or pocket square or brown lace-ups instead of black ones.
I am liking this 100% silk tie from Rag & Bone. Its simple contrast diagonal white stripe doesn't scream 'Look at me!' but rather says 'I know what I am doing'. Because the last thing you want is people looking at you for the wrong reasons.
This skinny tie (3" at widest point) would make a stylish addition to your wardrobe. Wear this to the office or to the bar or on a date; in any way, you'll be looking sharp.

I am a fan of the iconic Dior Homme bumblebee and this tie with its bee pattern jacquared weave shows off the mascot in an intricate way. Look at this, it's subtle and sleek and you can't tell the weaves are actually bee patterns without going close to the person wearing this. Luxury should be intimate and this 100% silk tie is a fine example. Get this for US$165 at eLUXURY.
I think square tip ties are stylish and a great addition to your work wardrobe. This D&G tie is a good example. The contrasting gray stripes on this navy textural jacquard weave tie adds 2 quiet stroke of detail on this 100% silk tie. The dark navy and gray combination will go well with your solid colored shirts (like white, black, navy, grey). Get this for US$170 at eLUXURY.

I just bought this tie a couple of days ago. I was looking for the one with the single red bumble-bee; the stores were either sold out or only had the white bumble-bee option. Then I saw this, I took me a few seconds but it grew on me, There is a cluster of tiny red embroidered bumble-bees in the middle of the tie; the cool thing about this is that the cluster of bees graduate in color; the red is slightly faint at the top then gets bolder in the center and then fades again. It'll take a close up in order for you to be able to see the bees but like I always say; those in the know, will know.
I wanted a single bumble-bee and I ended up with a cluster, so I got more than I bargained for but sometimes, that can be a good thing. Get this 100% silk tie at eLUXURY for US$170.
