Marni Blue Metal Sunglasses
Marni Blue Metal Sunglasses detail
Eye wear is a platform for expression that I don't think I do very well. I wear sunglasses to shield my eyes from the sun or when I do not want to be disturbed. But I know people who match their outfits to their glasses and buy glasses as often as shoe fiends buy shoes.

I think this striking blue pair would appeal to some. The angular, almost rectangular shape is structured and gives a strong, masculine feel. The blue tone is a breath of color and it contrasts nicely with the metal arm.

The light tinted lenses round up this engaging pair. Unlike some sunglasses, you can use this frame too for daily glasses by replacing the lenses with prescription ones.

Martin Margiela Mono Lens Sunglasses

I am a huge fan of Maison Martin Margiela's work. He's a visionary and very forward. I admire his aesthetic and sense of individualism.

That said, however, there are some pieces of his that make me scratch my head. Like this one. I dig its sci-fi vibe and influence but it's just unwearable. And I don't think it's flattering at all - no matter how great your features are.

It's too wide and it's too tall and unless you're really blessed with chiseled, angular features - this won't be feasible at all. Really cool but just not as wearable. Or maybe I am just not cool enough for this but I prefer to think the former than the latter....

Prada Wayfarer Sunglasses

When it comes to sunglasses, I like them simple. No embellishments, no splattering of logos. They should function as they are supposed to and look good doing so.

This wayfarer pair from Prada has my vote. The wayfarer design is classic and timeless and will look right with everything in your wardrobe. The solid frame and thin temples give this a sleek feel.

I am digging the quiet Prada stamp - nothing fancy, just simple and unassuming. The dark grey gradient lenses provide some external visibility of your eyes so you maintain an adequate dose of mystery.

Ray Ban Black Wayfarer
Okay, I know - enough about Wayfarers already. It's a given that they are perennially cool and an undisputed classic. But when I saw these - black with grey lenses; I knew I had to have them.

So I ran out to the store and I think it was meant to be - the eyewear store I went to was having its opening sale so 20% off! I tried them on, and immediately bought them.

The fit is incredible and it's a pair I would wear everyday. Black is fail-proof and I like the contrast of the grey lenses. So I just had to share this.

Spitfire Atlantic Small Prawn Sunglasses
Thrifty Flavors: Spitfire Atlantic Small Prawn Sunglasses orange

I don't believe in spending too much on sunglasses. A couple of hundred dollars is fine but anything more than that is just not in my books. I mean, I am a klutz and I break things, sit on things and I lose things. So spending a lot on a pair of glasses just doesn't make sense to me.

Which is why this stylish pair is Style Flavor's Thrifty Flavors this week. This classic aviator shades will get you through Summer and then some. The modern contrast of color is fresh and vibrant while being quiet enough for those days where you just don't need any extra attention.

The large sized lens ensures easy hiding of eye bags, dark circles and signs of rough nights and hard partying. And the great thing is, you don't have to break the bank for this!

Summer is officially here and it's that time of the year where your sunglasses are perpetually on your face. I'll be spending some Summer time in Bali and checking out Laos. So I know I will need my shades.

Good shades are a must but just because a piece is expensive doesn't make it good. Full spectrum UV protection are a prerequisite and the rest is just up to individual preferences. That said, you can't go wrong with an aviator shape.

This pair is hitting all the right spots - I am liking its classic aviator shape and the visible external lens clips that look like small studs from far; lending an edgy vibe to this pair.

The all-black design is universal and will go with everything. Be it your work outfit, summer party outfit or weekend outfit. And the best thing about this? It's steal of a price - at US$35, this is a Thrifty Flavors worthy buy!

Dolce & Gabbana Aviator SunglassesSummer is fast approaching and like frozen margaritas and BBQs in the yard, sunglasses are ubiquitous. Invest in a good one and it will serve you well for years to come. I am digging this aviator-influenced pair from Dolce & Gabbana.

The lightweight acetate frames means comfort when you have it on throughout the day and the great thin shape gives a sleek, stylish look that won't go ignored in the best months of the year.

Available in 2 colors - black-grey and havana-brown; both wonderful colors. The black is a classic option while the brown will provide a mod vibe that will sync with your summer wardrobe.

Ray-Ban Classic Aviator Sunglasses Ray-Ban Classic Aviator Sunglasses gold Ray-Ban Classic Aviator SunglassesInitially made to help pilots block off distracting rays from the sun, Ray-Ban aviators are as iconic as hot dogs.

The classic shape will never go out of style and you can wear them for life. Whether you're in your 20s or your 60s, they will still look as good, no matter what you wear. How often do you get an item so universal?

Prada Plastic-Arm AviatorsI like items with color blocks and I think they are a sure-fire way to draw attention and add dashes of colors to your outfit. That said, there should be a cohesive contrast and a harmonious existence of the colors.

This pair of Aviators looks like a regular pair with decent gradient lenses. I wish they would have left it at that but no, they had to make the ends of the arms bright Yellow. Just like the Lego blocks I used to play with as a kid.

This rude burst of color cheapens the overall look of the aviators and it doesn't help when the arms are made of plastic. You would think that US$275 would get you more than just a slap of a designer label and plastic brick road yellow arms. I guess not.

You can find this at Neiman Marcus.

Maison Martin Margiela Banded Sunglasses, Bronze Maison Martin Margiela Banded Sunglasses, Bronze 1This is just like something you would see out of a sci-fi movie or on Battlestar Galactica. I've only seen a couple of episodes but I think this would fit right into their whole wardrobe theme.

This is also, of course, classic Maison Margiela. He, of the black band around his models' eyes of past seasons. He took that concept and brought it to everyday life with this pair of bronze shades.

The thing is, I am on the fence on this one. On one hand, it's got the whole cool Fifth-Element factor and it is smartly constructed because there is a little nose nook that I couldn't see from the first picture but is visible in the second; so it is actually comfortable to wear for more than a few minutes. And you'll be sure to be the only one in the block or the whole neighborhood with shades like these.

On the other hand, I am not too thrilled with the dull bronze color - maybe it was a direct opposition to the whole sci-fi vibe? I think silver or black would be a better fit in terms of color but maybe this was Maison Margiela's whole point. To have something so obviously inspired by a certain theme but then not look like everything one would associate with that theme.
