My favorite part about layering is the display of slivers of colors - either contrast or complimentary. They easily help elevate an outfit to another stylish level with minimal fuss.

I find myself being more and more selective about the clothes I buy these days. Gone are the days when I indulge in sheer volume. After years of looking back and giving things that have never been worn, I've come to the conclusion that what I should focus more on pieces that stand on their own and less on disposable clothing. 

So a prerequisite for purchase now is that a piece has to stand out in its own unique way among a sea of identical looking pieces. It's like, sure you have basics that look the same but do I really need another grey-black combo cardigan? 

This cardigan won me over with its shawl collar detail and the fact that it deviates a little from the norm by means of its zipper front. The shawl adds a hit of refinement and the silver tone snap detail at the zip placket provides a modern feel. 

The rib knit sleeve cuffs and waistband give this cardigan a jacket feel/look. If you don't know, you might otherwise think that this is a jacket. Which is another feature that makes this stand out.

We're seeing a lot of double-breasted pieces this season and most of the time, I don't believe in following trends but certain styles that are classic and perennial - will give you mileage for years and years to come.

Shades Of Greige is fast becoming one of my favorite brands. This up-and-coming label is one to watch out for. With their streamlined, clean and sleek designs in more somber colors (white, navy, grey, black - all my favorites!), this very affordable line is on my radar. The pieces I wanted have been sold out so I am not the only one who is a fan so if you see something you like; I suggest you grab it lest it sells out the next time you check on it.

This collar cardigan is great for both work and play. The thicker button placket gives this a dressier vibe - akin to a blazer. The dark navy shade is attractive and one that won't go out of style.

The clean lines of this piece is enhanced by the striking yet subtle shawl collar. I am loving this bit of detail - it gives a flair that stands out without trying hard at all. I made a mental note a few weeks ago to start adding more jackets to my wardrobe. I like cold weather so I don't cover up unless its really cold but the desire for more jackets stems from my desire to want to spend more time in colder climates. Wardrobe manifestation, probably.

This gorgeous jacket caught my eye and it's completely up my alley. I love its light grey shade - perfect for Fall/Winter and flattering and goes with most everything in my wardrobe. The details on this jacket drew me in - from the clean lines to the pockets to the button-clasp feature on the hood. It's modern and relevant - two qualities I want in a casual jacket.

I've been looking at trench coats ever since I fell in love with this Burberry one but alas, when I wanted to get it, it was sold out. But then it happens to me all the time - the pieces I want seem to sell out all the time. 

I came across this yesterday and like a lot of Shades Of Greige pieces, this one really called out to me. I am really digging Shades Of Greige and they are definitely one label to watch out for. 

This trench is classic and the Khaki shade is universal and will serve you well for years and years to come. The waist and especially the cuff belts add detail while the double breasted still shows off the clean lines on this wonderful piece. 

The buttoned pleat at the back shows off the attention to detail while the left buttoned vamp gives this a slight modern touch. The rain hood will serve its purpose during lousy weather and the partial plaid lining just solidifies how you can have style at a really affordable price.
