Rules Of Style: The Perfect Fit
First impression matters and even though they might not be accurate or objective, they still count because it's harder to change an individuals's formed opinion of you than to make a good one the first time around.

We are all judged to some degree by how we appear - our hair, clothes, nails, shoes, skin. When it comes to clothes, fit is so so important. You can have the sleekest pieces but if they don't fit right, they don't look right.

Details has a guide to how clothes should fit. All aspect of a modern man's wardrobe - from shoes, to ties, to underwear, to formal wear. These rules are simple and you probably already have them ingrained somewhere at the back of your mind but it's always good to have a refresher. You never know what might hit close to home.

Rules Of Style: Rolled-Up Jean (Zac Efron)
I remember (unfortunately!) the 90s when I thought I was so so cool with my baggy jeans. They were beyond baggy - I had a 24" waist and I wore 32" jeans. I literally looked like the road-sweeping machines; the ones with the big brushes that sweep leaves off the sidewalks, because my jeans were literally sweeping the floors. So I had to cuff them up and the bigger the cuff, the cooler I thought I looked.

I was so wrong - my family tried many times to tell me so but when you're 13, it all falls on deaf ears.So the question is back - to cuff or not to cuff? Details explored the right ways to cuff your denim and the ways that should be avoided.

Personally, I do cuff my jeans but only a sliver (like Zac Efron pictured above) - it provides contrast and shows off my footwear; perfect if I am wearing boots, high-tops or chukkas. Subtlety is key and less is always more in this case. One good thing about growing older is learning from past mistakes especially sartorial ones.

Rules Of Style: Kris Van Assche
Kris Van Assche had big shoes to fill when he first joined Dior Homme. I adored the work Hedi Slimane did for Dior Homme and I wondered about Kris' ability to bridge the void left after the departure of Hedi but Kris Van Assche has gone from strength to strength season after season. I do find myself lusting after a few key pieces every season.

He shared with Details his 10 rules of style and some of them hit close to home. Here are some highlights:

"I don't really think I know a man who wouldn't look good in black. Black is always good. It's the basic." Black is my default choice. It hides stains, slims the silhouette, goes with everything - I could go on and on.

"My grandmother told me there are two ways of living: You can either survive or you can really make a life. There is eating and there is dining. She would always give that extra little effort, and I still believe that is important--to make things more beautiful makes all the difference." Someone important once told me to grab life by the balls and to focus on things that are in my control. It is one adage that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

Patrick Robinson
Patrick Robinson, the creative director of Gap, shared with Details his 10 rules of style. I found myself agreeing to majority of his rules and here are some highlights:

''The coolest guy out there is the one who knows what's going on and has all the information on fashion but then picks the one thing that works for him. That's all you need--and a brain in your head.''

How true. The most important thing when it comes to your wardrobe is knowing who you are and what you are about.

"There's nothing wrong with getting a manicure and pedicure before you show up at the beach. There's nothing wrong with getting your hair cut even if you want to look like you don't cut your hair. There's no shame in taking care of yourself."

I can't concur more. Grooming is a fundamental and you take pride in your work and your vintage car so why wouldn't you take pride of your skin and the way you smell?

Rules Of Style: Donna KaranDonna Karan, the American maven who brought her take on fashion to the public with all of her lines shared with Details her 10 rules of style.

There are a couple of good ones and ones that hit close to home. One rule highlight being, "One guy can throw on a pair of jeans and T-shirt and just wear that and be perfect, while another guy can wear a T-shirt and jeans and look horrible. A guy needs to keep his eyes open, try several things on, and trust other people's opinions."

Being open to new experiences and style options is something worth your time and effort. One can't evolve if one refuses to budge or change. And sometimes, it doesn't hurt to ask for help/advice neither will it cost you a thing.

There are also other helpful points like the 7 basic pieces every man should have in his wardrobe and following trends. Read the whole article here.
