Clean & Clear Blackhead Eraser
There is no sure-fire way to get rid of blackheads. They come and go and they always seem to surface when you least need them to. So it's always been a constant battle between me, enlarged pores and blackheads.

I discovered this handy gadget months ago when I was product shopping and I bought it without thinking much of it. What you do is this - insert a battery into this eraser, slap a blackhead eraser pad (light purple colored side down), wet your face and the pad then turn it on to start the whole process of clearing your pores.

The vibrations from this gadget together with the Salicylic Acid gently 'erasers' prominent blackheads. Massage this over the hard to reach creases of your nose to allow the medication to work and loosen up the hardened plugs. Use this 2-3 times a week in place of your cleanser.

My pores looked cleared and my blackheads were lesser. The thing is, this doesn't completely remove all blackheads, but instead removes some while allowing the stubborn ones to be easily extracted. I don't do extraction so I use this before a party or night date to remove as many visible plugs as possible.

This is also great for post-beach vacations when your pores might be clogged from all the sunblock. Skin feels smoother, cleaner and pores look less clogged - the wallet-friendly pricetag doesn't hurt either.

Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Night Cream
Skin concerns run the gamut from enlarged pores to blackheads to sun spots to acne to wrinkles. Personally, acne and wrinkles are the two most dreaded skin conditions. So when a product offers to treat both at once - you can count on me to jump on the bandwagon.

I gave this a whirl a couple of weeks back during a particularly stressful period of time - breakouts ensued and I just got back from a beach vacation with time spent in the sun, so I wanted a product that would help combat premature lines caused by the sun.

The light texture is great and so is the handy tube size, making this perfect for overnight stays (you especially want to look good the morning after a booty call), travel and vacations. Pure Retinol, a powerful wrinkle fighting ingredient works to reduce the appearance of lines while Salicyclic Acid combats zits at the source.

My skin cleared up in a few days and it had a smoother, softer appearance. I had a gradual overall improvement in my complexion and the super wallet friendly price tag makes this a staple!

Murad Post-Acne Spot Lightening Gel
I've been actively trying to combat those pesky brown spots left behind by my bouts of breakouts whenever I am stressed or don't get enough sleep. It's been a really stressful and frustrating week for me this week and I am glad it is finally over. But still, I am left with breakouts on both my cheeks.

Thankfully, I have this lightening gel that after seeing the state of my skin, I went to get another bottle. I've been using this for 3 weeks now and it's got to be one of the more effective spot lightening agents I have used so far.

This easy to apply gel goes on after your toner. With Hydroquinone; an effective proven skin lightening agent that inhibits melanin production, this gel gets to the source and gently exfoliates with AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) while it lightens past skin damage and Licorice calms down skin irritation.

My spots became lighter after twice a day use for 2 weeks and my skin tone looked generally more even after the third week. I was quite pleased. Its small, handy size makes this great for travelling especially on beach vacations when I tend to break out after time spent under the sun. So using this with your blemish spot treatment will ensure clearer skin quickly. This is one that I will be using for a while...

AcneFree Sensitive Acne & Blackhead Terminator
This is one of my zit-fighting staples that I count on during periods of time when I don't get enough sleep. When I don't sleep well, I break out and I am a bit of stressed because of it - yeah I know, vicious cycle.

This has 2% Benzoyl Peroxide, Triclosan (an antibacterial agent) and Willow Bark (a source of natural Salicylic Acid) so it's like having 3 active ingredients working hard together to banish those unfortunate zits. That's not all, the time realsed technology delivers Benzoyl Peroxide gradually making this less harsh on your skin and wonderful for all skin types.

I love its light texture that gets absored by the skin quickly so you don't get the white residues that other acne creams have. Of course, the best and most important thing is that it works.

My zits become smaller by the second day. This is best used twice or three times a day. I am the kind of person that if you tell me something is going to work, I will apply it religiously. And I do with this zit cream and it pays off. When I am zit free, I use this on the nose to help unclog black and whiteheads.

And the fantastic price just shows you don't have to spend a lot of money for clear skin. Get this University Medical AcneFree Sensitive Acne & Blackhead Terminator Medicated Spot Control Gel (1oz/28g) for US$5.99 at Drugstore.com.
Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Body Treatment Spray
I shower after every work out - I know that's a given but that does not seem to help with the occasional chest and back zits. I am a firm believer in personal hygiene but I believe my sweat and sebaceous glands are just really enthusiastic. Which leads to body acne which is not sexy at all.

I needed something to help get rid of them. I usually just use zit cream but sometimes, it gets too drying or I need some extra help. This body spray came in handy. I like its light texture that absorbs quickly. With anti-oil and shine properties; this is great for both body and face. I had a flaming zit and this help reduce the redness. Of course, I had to re-spray every few hours. But as long as it works, I'm sold. And this works.

I also appreciate the 360 degree spray which makes it easier to get hard-to-reach areas like  the back. If you're prone to break-outs, spray this on your face before bedtime as a preventive measure.

Clinique Acne Solutions Post Blemish Formula
The brown marks left by pesky zits is my primary skin concern right about now along with blackheads but at least I know how to deal with blackheads. The post-inflammatory marks on the other hand leave me frustrated and annoyed. I have tried everything - from masks, to spot creams, to spot patches to peels, to lasers. The only thing I need now is patience; which is always easier said than done.

I need patience and during my patience period, I did some shopping and I picked this up at the Clinique counter because I figured I had nothing to lose. Turns out, patience and this post-blemish formula was what I needed to fade those marks.

This is specially formulated for post-inflammatory marks. I apply this twice a day right after my toner so this goes on first and then serum and then moisturizer. A tube of this doesn't last long (lasted me about 10 days or so with twice a day use) but after about 10 days, I started to see a lightening of those marks. They were less obvious and less brown and it did pay off.

I went back to the store to buy two more of these and I am determined to get rid of those marks once and for all. Get this for US$13.50 (0.7oz/2g) at Clinique.

Acne Black Shorts
Acne Black Shorts profile
Acne Black Shorts back
I spent some Summer time in Bali and Laos the past 2 weeks and as you can imagine, the sun was really out and the humidity that South East Asia is known for made wearing jeans during the day pretty unberable. So it was shorts, sandals and beach wear all day long. Except save some nights when it got a little cooler.

I had some black shorts tailored made last year and I take them everywhere. They are essential, universal and so hardy. A black tone is fantastic for clumsy individuals such as myself; you can spill and you and drip and it'll all be fine.

This pair from Acne fits the description and will serve you well this Summer. The black will go with everything; shirts, tees, tank tops, tattoos. The lone pocket on the back adds to the clean lines of this pair of shorts. I like how it deferred from the norm which resulted in only 1 pocket. I think it gives a detailed touch.

If this is too long for your preference, simply roll it up for some Summer nonchalance or have the length taken in some more for an edgier, current vibe,

Kiehl's Acne Blemish Control Daily Skin-Clearing TreatmentI've been pretty stressed these past weeks and whenever I am stressed, my skin reacts in its own idiosyncratic way. It throws a tantrum by means of multiple zits, extreme tightness and general dullness. It is at these times that I walk around looking like I abuse my skin which is really far from the truth.

I had 4 huge zits that erupted all together last week and I am still trying to deal with the last stubborn one. Zits I can handle, but it is the post-inflammatory marks that they leave behind that annoys me. They take forever to fade and patience is not one of my virtues.

So when I first discovered that Kiehl's had a zit treatment cream that not only works to banish zits but also clear up post-acne marks, I was ready to give it a shot. I have gone through 2 tubes of this and I have to say that although there are definitely stronger zit creams out there in the market, this is one that I would go back to the store for.

With Dioic, Salicylic (1.5%) and Lipo Hydroxy Acids that work together to encourage micro-exfoliation and kill zit-causing bacteria. I used this 3 times a day and my zits went away in a couple of days. What I was most pleased about was how this faded the post-inflammatory marks - both new and old.

The old marks started fading quicker and the new marks appeared lighter after a week of use. The compact size makes this a good traveling companion for touch-ups throughout the day.

Acne Denim Shirt Acne Denim Shirt sleevesI never thought much about the other less ubiquitous denim clothing articles; like jackets and hats and shirts. That said, wearing a head to toe denim look is something that should be taboo. Why play favorites and only wear one fabric?

It was perhaps with Lanvin's collaboration with Acne Jeans that showcased how denim can also exist in the form of tees and dresses. And it wasn't until that I saw this shirt that I realized that maybe after all, I can pull off a denim shirt.

I am liking the stiff white collar that adds a striking yet simple contrast to this wonderful piece. It gives a cool, street vibe to this denim shirt. What I dig the most is the unexpected lone button at the end of the button tab. What a way to play with detail.

This would be great tucked out so I would take this to my alteration guy and have him take it in so that it looks just perfectly fitted and shorted for wearing untucked. This will look dandy with pants, chinos and even jeans - I would wear this with a black pair. The contrast in denim colors will offset any potential faux pas.

Clearasil Ultra Rapid Action Treatment Cream
The first signs of stress and lack of sleep on my face don't show on my eyes (they come next) but rather manifest themselves through zits that pop up everywhere and at the most inconvenient of times.

Some are large and others are smaller, but they are all inconvenient. And I find that the best way to deal with these annoyance is to cover them with zit cream multiple times a day. So I have zit creams in all my bags, most everywhere in the house. It's just so much more convenient this way.

I picked this up at the store when I was buying a bunch of stuff, particularly because I was curious about its claim to reduce the size of zits in 4 hours. I had a couple of zits the next day and it was time to put this to the test.

I won't say that the zits dramatically reduce in size but they did become smaller in hours. The bigger more stubborn zits took longer but eventually after several treatments, they shrank too. I don't experience redness so I can't say much about that.

What I can say is that unlike some of the other spot treatments I have used before, this doesn't dry your skin out excessively. I have really oily skin so I can get away with multiple applications throughout the day but those of you who have drier skins, dab this twice a day and see how your skin reacts.

With 10% Benzoyl Hydroxide, this full strength zit treatment cream gets the work done and the best thing about it? Its price point - a worth-well buy.

Patricia Wexler Acnescription™ Acne Spot TreatmentZits always seem to have the worst sense of time - they pop up when you least expect them to; just when you think you won't have to deal with them for a while, one appears, threatening to have a field day.

That was what happened to me last week and there was no better time to give this spot treatment a shot; I bought this thinking I might need it someday when I was stocking up on products and it turns out that I really did need it.

This spot treatment has a drier texture that I was expecting but it only takes a few seconds of massaging it into the zit for it to be absorbed into the problem area. I reapplied this twice a day and after 2 days, my zit disappeared. I was quite pleased.

With 10% Benzoyl Peroxide, this is not something you apply all over your face as it can be quite drying if you have normal/sensitive skin. But I didn't have a problem with dryness mainly because of the extreme oiliness of my skin.

But whatever it is, this is one spot treatment that I will be purchasing again; it works and its small compact size makes it easy for traveling or for throwing into your day bag.

Malin + Goetz Acne Treatment

Malin+Goetz is a NYC based apothecary that uses hydration and absorption science to keep skin in tip-top condition. This acne treatment contains salicylic acid with 10% active sulfur to effectively dry and combat acne pimples. With Camphor to battle impurities and zinc oxide to prevent scarring and skin damage.

As harsh as that might all sound, this treatment is gentle enough for sensitive skin. I don't experience peeling or excessive drying usually associated with acne products. I was actually pretty surprised by its gentleness.

I have thick oily skin that still gets dried out by acne products so if you have the same skin type, you'll appreciate this. So get zapping! Get this at Malin+Goetz for US$22 or at Tobi.

Avene Cleanance K

I find myself with the occasional zit and they pop up no matter how clean my face is. Since I sleep with the air-conditioner most everyday, I've been looking for a product that would keep the zits at bay and not add to the dryness of my skin at night. I found this 6 months ago and it's great because it's got both AHA and BHA which gently exfoliate the skin to lessen the marks left behind by those zits. It also has an extract of Cucurbita Pepo and Zinc Gluconate which help minimise sebum production while purifying the skin when used during the day. Along with Salicylic acid and Avene spring water, this handy moisturizer keeps the zits at bay when you sleep while soothing and softening your skin. Pretty handy to have around. Get it at a local pharmacy like Guardian or at Drugstore.com for US$18.

AcneFree 3-Step System AcneFree 3-Step System

We've all had breakouts and suffered from acne at one stage of our lives. I had my share of teenage hormonal acne. I went to bed one night with clear skin and when I woke the next day, my whole face was breaking out. Needless to say, I have tried a lot of products. Though my acne phase has long gone, I still use acne products to keep zits at bay.

I discovered AcneFree 3 step system at Costco about 1 year or so ago when I was at Costco. I decided to give it a shot and let me just say, it really works. I love it so much that I bought a few boxes back to Singapore and passed them around. Needless to say, it was a hit.

I love the time release formula of the repairing lotion; it provides oil control and works 24/7 to keep pores clean and zit free. So you can have a 8am-10pm day and it'll still be working to prevent acne when you get home. You can use this on your body, your chest or your back too!

The favorite product hands down, is the zit cream. This acne and blackhead terminator contains a combination of Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide and it's got to be one of the best zit gels I have ever used. Apply this gel on areas where you're breaking out or where you're most prone to blackheads and watch zits disappear! It does peel so I would suggest using this at night before bed or only on small spots in the day. I've had times when I applied this during the day and left the house only to find people's puzzled faces staring at me as they pass me by. Turns out, the gel started peeling on the places of application and I had flakes on my whole face as a result. They are not easy to remove unless you wash your face which would be a problem if you're in the middle of the work day or rushing to an appointment.

The AcneFree system sold at Costco comes with a 0.75oz/21g complimentary tub of the acne and blackhead terminator so if you live close to a Costco, drop by and pick a set up. You can get the AcneFree 3-Step System for US$19.95 (10oz/295ml) at AcneFree.com and the Acne & Blackhead Terminator for US$6.29 at Drugstore.com.
