It’s no secret that Balenciaga is my religion and each season, I spent most of my clothing budget there. But that said, my love for the work of Nicolas Ghesquiere comes from a very gratuitous place. It’s not blind nor is it cult-like. Because if it would, I would have skipped this puzzling pair of boots and not wrote about it all together.
Now I don’t really know what to make out of this pair of low western-influenced ‘boots’. I don’t find this attractive at all. I mean, metal toecap with calfskin leather? Sounds like something that would push the sartorial proverbial envelope but the result is rather lukewarm. There is a lack of sleekness that is usually associated with Balenciaga pieces but mostly, I find this looks like it’s trying a little too hard.
