Angelo Galasso, a bespoke menswear brand with a celebrity fallowing and outposts in London, Milan and Moscow, has arrived in the United States with its pioneer location at The Plaza hotel in NYC.
Located in the massive 3,800sq ft historic Edwardian Room off of the main lobby with views of Central Park and 5th Avenue. The Edwardian Room opened on October 1, 1907 as a men-only cafe, designed by the hotel’s architect, Henry Hardenbergh, and quickly became the home of the “power breakfast”. In 1921, the men-only rule was changed and ladies were admitted during the Prohibition Era. The “Plaza Restaurant” remained its name throughout the Forties as no rooms in The Plaza were officially named during that period. In 1955, the space was formally named The Edwardian Room in honor of the age that it personified.
Through its many name changes and incarnations, its appeal has remained the same: the incredible architectural details and masculine personality, which have been incredibly preserved and painstakingly restored. With its spectacular views of both Central Park and 5th Avenue, the Room has been a private event space in recent years.
Unable to touch the landmarked walls and ceiling, Angelo Galasso employed interior designers to study the Plaza, go through their archives, and create stunning fixtures that celebrate the history of the space and the luxuriousness of the brand. The result is a store that will be worth your time.
In his own words, Angelo Galasso describes his success as a combination of “passion, sensitivity and a touch of self-irony: as this is the only way to remain in the path of creativity.”
Galasso launched his first line and store, Interno 8, in 1990 in Rome’s Parioli neighborhood. By 1993, there were 80 Interno 8 stores across Italy with a cult celebrity following. In 2000, the brand expanded internationally with a shop in London and in 2004, Galasso’s Polso-Orologio shirt was exhibited at the Design Museum in London. In 2005, he founded the first Haute Couture brand for men, Billionaire Italian Couture, with Flavio Briatore. In 2009, he fulfilled his dream of developing his own signature brand for men, a line that carried his own identity and passion for bespoke clothing. The first Angelo Galasso store opened that November in Knightsbridge, London and has since opened in Milan and Moscow.
