I can go on and on about my love for Alexander McQueen's skulls. I have a thing for skulls and I especially like it when they are incorporated in my clothing. So season after season, the trademark of Mr McQueen is spun into varying versions. 

I paused when I saw this interpretation. The skull motif is obvious and bold which is how it should be. But I don't feel anything for the patchwork detail. On closer inspection, the patchwork is varied and interesting. However, it has the ability to easily overwhelm. 

You would need to be able to carry loud prints off and make them look cool. Any lesser and well, this tee would look like it's wearing you. Which is never good. So I am on the fence on this one - yay for the patchwork intricacy and boldness but nay for the fact that lesser beings, like myself, can't pull this off.

A big focus this season is on asymmetric details, mostly in the form of plackets and zips. Personally, I am so on the asymmetric detail bandwagon - not only does it provide a breath of fresh air, it also looks current, modern and yet far from faddish. 

These qualities are perfectly manifested in this asymmetrical zip jacket. The asymmetrical zip is the obvious punch-detail here but it is greatly supported by other quieter details. Like the collar flap that gives a bold hit of sleekness that I can't get enough of -It further accentuates the asymmetrical zip detail.

The flap pockets give this piece a dose of dressy-ness that again, is another appreciated detail. The visible detailing on the back by means of the lining adds another shot of cool. I've got my eyes on this piece for all the above reasons.

I have a thing for skulls and studs. And I am always drawn to pieces that try to incorporate the tough edge of these two details. Some might fall and fail while others do succeed.

*Update: I bought this last week and the shoes arrived today and I immediately returned it. I am so disappointed - the bovine leather looks cheap and shows all scratches and creases so easily. The inferior quality doesn't warrant the price-tag at all and I really expected more from Alexander McQueen. This would have been such a stunning pair if it had been a tad patent and the leather tougher and more durable. Oh well, on to the next!*

Skulls are just something I cannot get enough of. Skulls and studs especially. When done right, they can make such a sartorial statement that would linger in your thoughts for days and days. At least they do in mine. 

There is just something about skulls that when used to edge up an outfit gives a punch that won't go unnoticed. Which is why I am thrilled by this pair of cufflinks. The silver metal skulls will instantly add a hit of hardness that in distinctly individualistic. 

I would wear this with a tuxedo or suit - injecting an air of doom that contrasts against the formal feel of a black-tie ensemble. A contrast that well, has my name written all over it.
