This is beyond tragic. Alexander McQueen was found dead at his home in London. The iconic designer was only 40. Rest in peace Mr McQueen.

I can go on and on about my love for Alexander McQueen's skulls. I have a thing for skulls and I especially like it when they are incorporated in my clothing. So season after season, the trademark of Mr McQueen is spun into varying versions.
I paused when I saw this interpretation. The skull motif is obvious and bold which is how it should be. But I don't feel anything for the patchwork detail. On closer inspection, the patchwork is varied and interesting. However, it has the ability to easily overwhelm.
You would need to be able to carry loud prints off and make them look cool. Any lesser and well, this tee would look like it's wearing you. Which is never good. So I am on the fence on this one - yay for the patchwork intricacy and boldness but nay for the fact that lesser beings, like myself, can't pull this off.
When the going gets boring, the tough fight back with sartorial back-stabs. With clothing from Versace, Rick Owens, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Comme Des Garcons Homme Plus; the upcoming issue of VMAN (out January 28) photographed by Simon Procter shows the push of menswear's boundaries. Fight on boys!
With the weather warming up in the next couple of months, it's time to start thinking about warm weather clothes - shorts, sandals, tees. And this smashing skull tee is a good option to ring in the start of longer days and boat parties.
Every season sees a different variation of the iconic McQueen skull and this season, this hand sketched version is dark, organic and visceral. It's hard to look away and that's the beauty of this piece.
It speaks for itself so wear this with everything - during the day, night, to parties, dinners, margaritas sessions. Who knows - it might even look abstract after some tequila...

A big focus this season is on asymmetric details, mostly in the form of plackets and zips. Personally, I am so on the asymmetric detail bandwagon - not only does it provide a breath of fresh air, it also looks current, modern and yet far from faddish.
These qualities are perfectly manifested in this asymmetrical zip jacket. The asymmetrical zip is the obvious punch-detail here but it is greatly supported by other quieter details. Like the collar flap that gives a bold hit of sleekness that I can't get enough of -It further accentuates the asymmetrical zip detail.
The flap pockets give this piece a dose of dressy-ness that again, is another appreciated detail. The visible detailing on the back by means of the lining adds another shot of cool. I've got my eyes on this piece for all the above reasons.
Ideeli is having a fantastic sale for the boys - Puma By Alexander McQueen pieces are on seriously discounted prices. From as low as US$79 - US$94 (original retail prices of US$200 - US$230) - that is like a 60% discount!
I have my eyes set on the first pair - the sleek low cut black leather pair but as all good sales go, they are all sold out of my size. Bummer, But I hope you guys have more luck!
*Update: I managed to get my hands on the pair I wanted! The beauty of Ideeli is that each user is only allowed to hold an item for 15 minutes in the cart, after which, the item goes back up on the website for sale to the next person who adds it to his/her cart. So if you want something and it says 'All Reserved" and not 'Sold Out', just be patient and keep refreshing. Chances are, you might end up getting what you want in the end!*
I have a thing for skulls and studs. And I am always drawn to pieces that try to incorporate the tough edge of these two details. Some might fall and fail while others do succeed.
Like this cool brogues from Alexander McQueen - he who brought skulls into the spotlight. The classic brogue design is enhanced with very cool skull motifs that not only give this a edgier feel but also makes this stand out in a very good way.
Imagine wearing a suit with these rocking pair. The skulls are subtle and quiet; only those who bother to look will see them and that quality is something I really appreciate.
The perforations add detail and only serve to compliment the eye-catching rounded toe. A classic with design with a hit of cool cred that is making me want to reach for my credit card...

*Update: I bought this last week and the shoes arrived today and I immediately returned it. I am so disappointed - the bovine leather looks cheap and shows all scratches and creases so easily. The inferior quality doesn't warrant the price-tag at all and I really expected more from Alexander McQueen. This would have been such a stunning pair if it had been a tad patent and the leather tougher and more durable. Oh well, on to the next!*
